(Fed)

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) sees an opportunity for Thai stocks to continue rising, but action is needed to continuously attract foreign fund flows. Dr. Saraphol Tulayasathien, Deputy Manager and Head of Corporate Strategy and Finance Planning at SET, revealed that the direction of fund flows and the Thai stock market saw a relatively clear recovery in April, with the index rising about 3% and trading value exceeding 50 billion baht.
Although foreign investors sold heavily in March, by April net selling was only 2 billion baht. This brings the year-to-date net inflow of foreign capital to nearly 20 billion baht, successfully pushing the SET Index above the 1,500-point level. This positive momentum is a crucial turning point restoring investor confidence. The Thai market in 2026 has regained attention as foreign fund flows have reversed to net buying continuously after three consecutive years of selling (2023-2025).
Asst. Prof. Assadet Kongsiri, Director and Manager of SET, stated that the MSCI Rebalance in late May should be monitored. Thai stocks have benefited from growing market capitalization and a 20% index increase since the start of 2026. Although MSCI has adjusted its calculation method affecting all global markets, no significant impact has been observed initially.
Additionally, Moody’s upgraded Thailand’s outlook from “Negative” to “Stable,” boosting foreign investor confidence. Cooperation with the BOI aims to open pathways for “New Economy” fundraising. Thai stocks and bonds have become a safe haven as capital rotates from overvalued technology stocks into the Thai market, with accumulated net foreign buying exceeding 40 billion baht. Listed companies show strong earnings, with expected EPS potentially exceeding 100 baht per share and attractive dividends. Key supporting factors include government policies and BOI tax incentives (Fast Pass), geopolitical conflicts driving production base relocation to Thailand, and domestic political stability.
Key Investment Points:
– MSCI Adjustment: Monitor Rebalance which may affect short-term capital flows.
– Positive from Moody’s: Outlook upgrade to Stable enhances credibility and attracts long-term investors.
– New Economy Group: BOI cooperation opens fundraising opportunities for new businesses.
– Rotation Inflows: Foreign capital moves from expensive tech stocks to high-yield Thai stocks.
– Strong Earnings: Expected EPS exceeding 100 baht and high dividends are key attractions.
Risks to Watch:
– Foreign fund flows split into two types: long-term FDI in EEC (difficult to withdraw, 5-10 year horizon, volatility-resistant) and short-term speculative funds (prone to sell-offs).
– Global economic volatility and Fed policy changes.
– MSCI rule changes may impact portfolio weighting.
